About Our Faith

  • We want you with us! It doesn’t matter what you do or don’t believe; you are always welcome in God's house at Trinity Church every day, whatever the occasion, no exceptions. We are a safe and respectful community, and we shall do our very best to support you fully as our beloved sister or brother in Christ. We believe God is love: God loves us, and God wants us to love each other--including you.

  • Our overarching guide is Jesus’s teaching, sometimes called “the Summary of the Law” (Matthew 22:37-40, NRSV. See Mark 12:28-31 and Luke 10:25-28):

“'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

  • We believe that faithful living means coming to an understanding of God that allows us to embrace these two commandments and to live our lives according to them.

  • Episcopalians gather to pray and worship using the Book of Common Prayer. Contained in the Prayer Book is the Nicene Creed, a nearly 2000-year-old statement of conviction shared by the vast majority of Christians.

Below are links to various Christian and Episcopal websites that you might find useful and/or enjoyable. If you find other sites you think would be of interest to the congregation, please inform us so that we can add them to the list.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry:

(The Most Rev. Michael Curry was the Bishop of North Carolina before his election and installation as Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. We in Mt. Airy, NC feel a special bond with him; and some of us think of him as our special gift to the Episcopal Church at large!)
